Available materials:

  • Oak – classic and resilient

  • Jatoba – rich reddish wood with teak-like properties
  • Brushed stainless steel – modern, hard-wearing and ideal for indoor use

Customise Online – Length, Brackets and Finish

With our user-friendly configurator, you can design your railing in just a few clicks. Choose materials, dimensions, bracket styles and end types – and see your price update in real time.

You can specify:

  • Dimensions: Timber options up to 3 metres; metal options up to 4.5 metres (longer rails delivered in sections with seamless connectors)
  • Brackets: Five stainless steel bracket designs to suit your space
  • Ends: Open ends or closed with matching caps
  • Recommended mounting height: 900 mm from stair tread nosing

All kits include brackets, screws and step-by-step instructions.

Wooden Handrails for Stairs – Oak, Ash or Jatoba

For a natural and warm appearance, our hardwood handrails are a popular choice. Each option offers its own tone and texture:

  • Oak – classic and timeless, with strong durability
  • Ash – light-toned with a modern grain
  • Jatoba – rich reddish wood, dense and weather-resistant

All timber handrails are delivered untreated, so you can oil, stain or paint them to your preference. Or choose a pre-painted version in black or white in our configurator.

Metal Handrails – Stainless Steel and Aluminium

If you prefer a sleek, low-maintenance solution, our metal handrails offer modern durability with minimal upkeep:

  • Brushed stainless steel (AISI 304) – ideal for indoor applications
  • Acid-resistant stainless steel (AISI 316L) – suitable for outdoor use
  • Powder-coated aluminium – lightweight, durable and weatherproof

Available finishes include brushed, lacquered, textured or raw – depending on your choice of material.

Weather-Resistant Materials for Outdoor Use

When installing railings outdoors, it’s essential to choose materials that handle exposure to sun, moisture and temperature changes. We recommend:

  • 316L stainless steel – highly resistant to rust and corrosion
  • Powder-coated aluminium – easy to clean and weatherproof
  • Jatoba hardwood – ideal for outdoor environments thanks to its dense structure

While oak is also an option, it may discolour nearby surfaces due to natural tannins and requires periodic maintenance.

DIY Handrail Installation – Step-by-Step Guide

Whether you’re a seasoned builder or tackling your first project, our railing kits make installation simple. Each order includes all necessary components:

  1. Measure and mark where the brackets go
  2. Fix the brackets to the wall or post
  3. Secure the handrail to the brackets
  4. Double-check height and stability

All deliveries come with detailed printed guides and access to video instructions. If you need support, our UK-based team is ready to help.

FAQs – Handrails

  • Is a handrail required on stairs in the UK – and what is the correct height?

Yes, UK building regulations require a handrail on staircases with more than two risers. The recommended height is 900 mm, measured vertically from the front edge (nosing) of the stair tread. All our handrail systems comply with current UK safety standards.

  • Can I order a made-to-measure handrail?

Yes – all handrails are custom-made to your measurements. You’ll see the price directly in the configurator.

  • What material is best for an outdoor stair handrail?

We recommend stainless steel AISI 316 or jatoba hardwood for outdoor durability.

  • How do I install a stair handrail myself?

You’ll receive installation guides and tutorial videos. Most customers manage installation without a professional.

  • What is the difference between a wooden and metal handrail?

Wooden handrails, such as oak or ash, offer a warm, natural look and are ideal for indoor use. Metal handrails in stainless steel or aluminium are more durable, modern in style, and better suited for outdoor environments or high-traffic areas.

  • Can I install a wall-mounted handrail in a narrow hallway?

Yes – our slimline handrail brackets are designed to work even in tight spaces like hallways, corridors and stairwells. Wall-mounted handrails are a great way to add support without taking up floor space.

Symmetrical Sections

When entering your measurements into our configurator, always enter the outside measurements of the spot in which you wish to place your railing. Our configurator will then make the necessary adjustments. We then adjust the section measurements so that each section on each respective side is the same length. So we adapt your railing to your measurements, not the other way around.

Everything is Included with Your Order

The package you receive from us includes everything you need to assemble your barriers. This includes posts, glass and handrails, as well as all screws, drill bits and special tools. All you need is a screwdriver, wrench, ruler and spirit level.

Assembly Videos and Instructions

Our assembly videos help you by showing specific steps of the installation process. Our assembly tips and videos are adapted to each order. They’re not general descriptions, rather, they directly concern your particular order.

Stainless Steel Parts

Since stainless steel, despite its name, isn’t immune to corrosion, all stainless steel parts need to be maintained and cleaned 1-3 times a year. If the railing is installed in an area close to the sea, it may be necessary to clean and treat it more often. Use a soft cloth to clean the surfaces with lukewarm water and a mild detergent.

Wooden Handrail

If the railing is outdoors, we recommend cleaning the handrail and sanding it with fine sandpaper. Treat the handrail using a preserving product such as wood oil or similar, depending on the weather conditions. Handrails installed indoors only require cleaning and light sanding. Treatment with wood oil or similar is optional. All oak contains varying amounts on tannic acid, depending on the moisture of the wood. This is because the tannic acid counteracts decay in the wood. When your oak lintel or handrail is exposed to a humid or wet outdoor climate for the first time, the tannic acid is secreted. Which could cause discoloration on the surface below or underneath. Therefore, we recommend that the wood gets oiled, alternatively coated with oxalic acid during the mounting in order to decrease the risk of secretion of tannic acid. The oxalic acid could also be used to clean discolorations on the surface below. Consult with your paint shop before using oxalic acid. To keep the wood in good condition, we recommend oiling the wood a few times during the year.
