Upgrade Your Timber Railing with Glass Panels and Clamps
Looking to modernise your wooden balustrade without replacing the whole thing? Our glass & clamp system lets you keep your existing wooden posts and swap the horizontal bars for sleek laminated glass panels. The result is a safe, open and contemporary look that transforms balconies, terraces, or decks – without a full rebuild.
This is the perfect solution for anyone wanting to combine the warmth of timber with the clarity and security of glass – ideal for both modern homes and rustic settings.
Customise Your Glass and Clamp System
Tailor your system to fit your needs and style:
- Clamp style and colour – including black, grey, white or natural aluminium
- Glass type – choose from standard or toughened laminated glass
- Glass appearance – available in clear, grey-tinted or opal frosted finish
The glass is always laminated safety glass, which stays intact even if damaged, ensuring a secure and long-lasting result. For areas with increased exposure or impact risk, toughened laminated glass is also available.
Easy Installation on Existing Timber Railings
Our glass and clamp system is designed for straightforward retrofit installation. You can mount the glass panels either inside or outside of your existing wooden posts.
When you order from Balustradedesign, you’ll receive:
- All necessary clamps and pre-cut glass, made to measure
- Clear step-by-step installation videos, tailored to your project
- No need for specialist tools – basic DIY tools are enough
You don’t need to remove your posts – just upgrade the infill to create a completely new look.
Secure Laminated Safety Glass
All panels in this system are 8.76 mm laminated safety glass with polished edges. The construction consists of two bonded glass panes with a plastic interlayer, which holds the glass together even if one sheet breaks.
Choose between:
- 8.76 mm laminated glass: Two float glass panes
- 8.76 mm toughened laminated glass: Two tempered glass sheets for increased impact resistance. Recommended for wind-exposed balconies or public areas.
We also conduct our own internal tests – such as impact tests – to guarantee that every system performs as expected, regardless of location or weather exposure. Performance declarations (DoP) are available under technical documentation.
Effective Wind Protection
This system also works as a balcony windbreak or deck screen. Especially when fitted on the outside of the railing, the laminated glass helps reduce wind without blocking the view – a practical and stylish upgrade.
