Inspiration
See how our customers have used the Frameless Glass Balustrade in garden terraces, contemporary staircases, balconies and pool decks. Explore real-life installations with both rail base and point-fixed systems.
Our aluminium rails are anodised. It’s the same principle as on the mast of a sailboat, which is wind and weather resistant.
Stainless Steel Fixpoints
For lateral mounting, we use stainless steel fixpoints. AISI 304 for indoor use and AISI 316 for outdoor use.
Flour Mount
Square aluminium posts with the dimensions 50×50 mm and a thickness of 2.5 mm. The aluminium is anodised and has a surface layer of 20 µm. It’s the same principle as on the mast of a sailboat, which is wind and weather resistant.
12.76 mm Toughened and Laminated Glass
Two glass sheets of 6 mm each with a plastic film between them. If the glass breaks, the plastic film ensures it stays together as one part. Comes with ground and polished edges.
Glass Options (colour)
When designing your barrier, you can also choose the type of glass. You can choose between clear glass or coloured lamellae in gray or opal (coloured or frosted foil between the glass panes).
Aluminium Handrails
U-shaped aluminium guides (20×30 mm) attached to the glass strip with glue. Surface layer 20 µ.
Stainless Steel Handrail
Stainless steel rail in AISI 304 or 316 depending on the environment in which the railing is to be placed. Attaches on top of the glass with a rubber strip. 42.4 mm.
Wooden Handrail
Handrail in untreated light oak or teak, 45 mm. Attached to the glass with glue.
Corners
Parts for stainless steel and aluminium posts included for any corners in the railing. Wooden handrails are turned manually to ensure a precise fit.
Symmetrical Sections
When entering your measurements into our configurator, always enter the outside measurements of the spot in which you wish to place your railing. Our configurator will then make the necessary adjustments. We then adjust the section measurements so that each section on each respective side is the same length. So we adapt your railing to your measurements, not the other way around.
Customisable Railing Height
In our configurator, you can choose a railing height between 800 mm and 1100 mm from the ground to the top of the railing.
Millimetre Perfect
When you enter your measurements, we ask you to do so in millimetres. We create your railing to the millimetre, so that it’s a perfect fit for where you want to place it.
Top-Down Attachment with Rail
Rail delivered in lengths up to 2400 mm. If the length is greater, we’ll deliver in multiple parts to ensure your railing is symmetrical.
Lateral Attachment with Rail
Rail delivered in lengths up to 2400 mm. If the length is greater, we’ll deliver in multiple parts to ensure your railing is symmetrical.
Laterally With Fixpoints
Stainless steel fixpoints mounted on the outside with screws. Slightly more stable than top-down attachment and doesn’t take up any floor space.
Handrails With or Without Wall Attachment
If the railing starts from a wall, you can choose to attach the rail to the wall, too. This can provide slightly more stability.
Screw For Concrete Attachment Floor Attachment
If you choose a floor bracket with attachment to a concrete substrate, screws are included for this purpose. The screw is made of hardened steel with Corrseal treatment for outdoor environments – Corrosivity class C4. Approved for basic materials: Cracked concrete – Uncracked concrete – Hole-covered decks. Also suitable for: Solid brick – Hollow brick – Solid mexite brick – Natural stone.
Screw For Concrete Attachment With Aluminum Rail
If you choose attachment to a concrete substrate, screws are included for this purpose. Safety expander is made of stainless steel for outdoor use or hot-dip galvanized for indoor use. The screw is 100mm long and is mounted directly on the pre-drilled hole using a 6mm hex key which is of course included with your order. Approved for basic materials: Reinforced concrete, concrete, Solid brick and stone.
Lintel With or Without Wall Attachment
If the railing starts from a wall, you can choose to also attach the rail to the wall. This can provide a slightly more stable construction.
Top-Down Attachment
This is done by driving 4 screws into the floor.
Lateral Attachment
The post is anchored with two screws at the sides directly against the anchoring surface.
Customisable Attachment Heights
If you choose lateral attachment, you can also choose the attachment height. You can either let the post extend down 350 mm or 250 mm. Generally, the larger measure, the better.
Everything is Included with Your Order
The package you receive from us includes everything you need to assemble your barriers. This includes posts, glass and handrails, as well as all screws, drill bits and special tools. All you need is a screwdriver, wrench, ruler and spirit level.
Assembly Videos and Instructions
Our assembly videos help you by showing specific steps of the installation process. Our assembly tips and videos are adapted to each order. They’re not general descriptions, rather, they directly concern your particular order.
Stainless Steel Parts
Since stainless steel, despite its name, isn’t immune to corrosion, all stainless steel parts need to be maintained and cleaned 1-3 times a year. If the railing is installed in an area close to the sea, it may be necessary to clean and treat it more often. Use a soft cloth to clean the surfaces with lukewarm water and a mild detergent.
Wooden Handrail
If the railing is outdoors, we recommend cleaning the handrail and sanding it with fine sandpaper. Treat the handrail using a preserving product such as wood oil or similar, depending on the weather conditions. Handrails installed indoors only require cleaning and light sanding. Treatment with wood oil or similar is optional. All oak contains varying amounts on tannic acid, depending on the moisture of the wood. This is because the tannic acid counteracts decay in the wood. When your oak lintel or handrail is exposed to a humid or wet outdoor climate for the first time, the tannic acid is secreted. Which could cause discoloration on the surface below or underneath. Therefore, we recommend that the wood gets oiled, alternatively coated with oxalic acid during the mounting in order to decrease the risk of secretion of tannic acid. The oxalic acid could also be used to clean discolorations on the surface below. Consult with your paint shop before using oxalic acid. To keep the wood in good condition, we recommend oiling the wood a few times during the year.
Glass
Use a soft cloth to clean glass surfaces with window or mirror cleaning fluid. For more difficult stains, rubbing alcohol can be used. Afterwards, clean with window and mirror cleaning fluid for a second time. Do not use abrasive agents on glass.
Aluminium Parts
Poles or other aluminium parts require occasional maintenance. Should stains appear, a mild detergent, water and a soft cloth are usually sufficient. Do not use products with abrasive, acidic or alkaline properties.
When you’re designing your balustrade, the usage class (A, B or C) gives an indication of where it’s suitable to use. Classes are based on UK Building regulations as specified by the British Standards Institution (see below), combined with our internal product tests, and take into account your specifications regarding balustrade height, section width, details, etc. They’re our recommendations to help you make the right choice!
Outdoor Existing Buildings: minimum 1100 mm railing height
Indoor Existing Buildings: minimum 900 mm railing height
Residential environments: 0.74 kN/m
Public areas: 1.5 kN/m
Arenas/shopping centres: 3 kN/m
Our balustrade solutions are CE marked, indicating they comply with relevant EU directives concerning health, safety, and environmental protection.
CLASS A
A Class A-rated railing meets the requirements specified above and is therefore suitable for use in all types of residential environments as well as public spaces such as offices, restaurants, and shops. Our Class A-rated railings withstand at least 0.74 kN/m in linear load, and in cases where the railing includes glass, it is safety glass designed to prevent injuries in case of impact.
CLASS B
Class B railings are suitable for use in environments where the level difference from floor to ground is 0-1 meter. Our Class B-rated railings withstand at least 0.5 kN/m in linear load, and in cases where the railing includes glass, it is safety glass designed to prevent injuries in case of impact.
CLASS C
C-rated railings are suitable for use at ground level. In cases where the railing includes glass, it is safety glass designed to prevent injuries in case of impact.
A railing may become C-rated if Balustradedesign, together with you as the customer, makes a modification to the railing that deviates from our standard. C-rated indicates that this specific configuration has not been tested.
CUSTOMISABLE RAILING HEIGHT
In our configurator, you can choose a railing height between 800 mm and 1100 mm from the ground to the top of the railing.
